Women Who Have Made a Difference

The most powerful women I know aren't in history books - they're in my life.

I’ve always considered myself lucky to know so many incredible women.

Growing up in a large family, we were fortunate to experience the wisdom, grit and laughter of two great-grandmothers and two grandmothers, who lived into their 90’s. Their multicultural backgrounds brought a richness to our home.

This richness included good food and great stories. Some had accents from the countries they were born in before immigrating to the United States. Wise eyes, calm smiles, and the resilience of women who survived wars, the Great Depression, and the challenges of endings and new beginnings.

You don’t have to be rich or famous to make a difference.

As I look at my mother, sister, aunts, cousins, daughters, in-laws, friends and colleagues, I see women worth celebrating. My favorite stars aren’t celebrities … they’re everyday people

Honoring International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day (IWD), celebrated every year on March 8, has held a special place in my heart since 2017, when I was in Europe with my daughters. As we walked from one special location to another, many were free or discounted in honor of women.

Over the years, I have found different ways to highlight this incredible day. Twice, I’ve had the honor of gathering a global collection of voices – men and women who care – into an online celebration of hope.

IWD 2021

IWD 2025

The intention both times was simple:  to highlight the beauty of humanity through everyday people making a difference. All of them are ✨STARS✨ in my eyes.

This year, I closed out IWD as a guest on Rita Ernst podcast, exploring the theme “Did I abandon myself? – a conversation on reclaiming our value and values.

And then, something special happened.

I came across a beautiful piece of artwork from Gerda Smith (George, S. Africa), who created a stunning image of a woman for IWD 2025. She gave me permission to share it with you today:

“She radiates in multicolor as the world around her spins”

✨May each of you always know your value and recognize the same in one another✨
