Maybe the point isn’t to get it all right.
Maybe the point is:
To understand what it feels like to make mistakes.
To develop every value across the spectrum
Until we understand, really understand.
Maybe the point is:
To feel compassion for the diversity in our world
Every man, woman, and child
All of creation.
Maybe the point is:
To appreciate and embody the spirit of our world
To really see it
In all its grace and glory
Maybe the point is:
To keep learning, by making mistakes
While celebrating the daily victories with gratitude and enthusiasm
Not taking anything for granted
Maybe the point isn’t static
It’s a dynamic rainbow of values
That permeate every encounter
Until there are no more encounters.
Maybe the point isn’t to get it all right
But rather to be present
With whatever life throws your way
And to offer compassion to those who fail
Maybe, it’s time to see and hear things
With an open heart and lens
Maybe
Maybe that’s the point

Artwork: "Mary's Invitation - A Place to Regard Beauty", 2014. Coated aluminum, by Ginny Ruffner, American born 1952. Commissioned by the Seattle Art Museum in memory of Mary Shirley, one of the most passionate supporters and key benefactors of the Seattle Art Museum's Olympic Sculpture Park.
Mary's Invitation has a joyousness in design that reflects Mary's enthusiastic love of life and art. She was very fond of Ginny Ruffner and her work, and the artist responded to this commission with a tribute of her own - an invitation for visitors to linger and enjoy the sweeping views of the park, its stellar artworks, and the spectacular scenery of Puget Sound.Poem written and originally posted by Susan LePlae Miller on LinkedIn 3/19/23
