I have held you
Back in your place
Away from your thoughts
Away from your space
Of honor and grace
I have held you
In moments of bliss
I have pulled you away
Into the abyss
Imagination amiss
I have held you
Captive from your dream
Your heart wrapped up
Away from esteem
Or so it shall seem
I have held you
Back from your hope
Contained in a way
Tied up in a rope
You will not elope
I have held you
As you tried to be
Something other than who
Your soul called out to me
Lost in the sea
You have held me
Captive no more
You’ve floated so long
Holding on like before
But it’s your time to soar
You have held you
Now settle your mind
Seek to believe
And soon you will find
You are one of a kind
You are free
